- La fatiga disminuye nuestra capacidad para pensar con claridad y permanecer atentos y vigilantes. Los conductores que están cansados o fatigados son mucho más propensos a cometer errores críticos que resultan en choques.
- No existe una prueba para determinar la somnolencia como la que existe para la intoxicación, es decir, un "Alcoholímetro".
- Las prácticas de información del Estado son incoherentes. La formación de la policía para identificar la somnolencia como factor de colisión es escasa o nula. Actualmente, todos los estados abordan la fatiga y/o la somnolencia de alguna manera en sus formularios de informes de accidentes.
