Scope, Application & Purpose
The Occupational Safety and Health Administration’s (OSHA) Standard 1910.147, “The Control of Hazardous Energy,” (lockout/tagout) helps safeguard employees from the unexpected startup of machines and equipment or release of hazardous energy while performing repairs, service, or maintenance. The “Lockout/Tagout” Standard identifies the practices and procedures necessary to shut down and lockout or tagout machines and equipment.
