It is estimated by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) that one in six Americans (or roughly 48 million people) suffer the effects of a foodborne illness annually. Of these individuals, 128,000 will require hospitalization and 3,000 will eventually die as a result of the illness.
