- One in three of 19,000 Canadian nurses polled said problems with their physical health had made it challenging to handle their workloads. Back pain was the most common complaint.
- Nearly nine percent of Canadian nurses of both sexes reported suffering depression
- Seventeen percent of Canadian nurses interviewed reported that psychological strain from their jobs had caused them to take no fewer than 20 sick days within a year.
- Twenty-nine percent of nurses polled said they had been targets of physical abuse by patients within the past year.
- More than 40 percent reported being emotionally abused by patients.
- Forty-five percent of female nurses and 51 percent of male nurses reported feeling unsupported by their co-workers. However, 90 percent said their working relationships with doctors were good.
