Search for New Life Ends Abruptly

A Haitian man who was working hard for a better life died suddenly when scaffolding he was moving collapsed onto him at a construction site in Fort Lauderdale, FL.

A cousin said that Ibernier Boltimer, 43, had come to Miami in 1995 because he wanted to be able to create a better life for his twin daughters in Haiti. Boltimer, described as a quiet and good man, also supported relatives in his hometown of Port-de-Paix, Haiti with his construction earnings.

The scaffolding collapse occurred at the Trump International Tower and Hotel construction site in Fort Lauderdale. OSHA was investigating the cause of the accident. He was buried under steel scaffolding for more than an hour before his body was recovered.

He died from a broken neck and head injuries. The scaffolding sections had been strapped in bundles of eight and investigators are trying to determine whether one of the bundles broke, burying Boltimer in metal.

Florida has been experiencing a recent spate of construction fatalities. Only weeks before Boltimer died, three workers were buried in concrete after a frame collapsed and not long before that, another construction worker died when part of a skyscraper crane collapsed.
