Houston Manufacturer Cited for Failure to Abate Safety Violations Issued $108,000 in Additional Proposed Fines

OSHA opened an inspection on Jan. 29, 2008 after a worker was electrocuted. A re-inspection of the plant nearly nine months later revealed that four serious and two other-than-serious violations had not been corrected by the company. Serious failure-to-abate violations cited include failure to have a written program for the control of hazardous energy, not installing the required wiring in accordance with OSHA regulations and failing to adequately mark branch circuits to indicate their purpose. The other-than-serious violations that allegedly remain uncorrected include not having a hazard communications program in place and not maintaining required recordkeeping. The initial inspection carried proposed penalties of $25,500.
