Chain Reaction Incident Kills Lumberyard Worker

Like a pendulum, the outcome of an incident can swing either way, resulting in a close call or a workplace fatality. Unfortunately, the pendulum swung the wrong way for Raleigh Wilson.

The 48-year-old Tampa, FL, lumberyard worker was struck by a board, which threw him into a belt. In turn, the belt dragged him into machinery, causing fatal injuries. Wilson is survived by his wife and three children.

Church Pastor Joshua told the Tampa Tribune that Wilson would give the shirt off his back to anyone needing it. He added that Wilson had a laugh that could be heard a mile away. “I’m sure God is telling him to be quiet.”

Could this type of situation occur within your workplace? Could a ladder or other piece of equipment fall and strike a worker, sending him or her into moving machinery? Address any potential problems before disaster strikes.
