Builder Fined After Worker Electrocuted

A home builder in Winnipeg, MB, has been fined $30,000 after a worker was electrocuted when the boom of the crane he was operating touched overhead wires.

A Crown prosecutor who investigated the death of Bryden Sinclair, 31, said that Cape Cod Home and Design had violated safety rules by failing to notify Manitoba Hydro about construction before work was started. The company agreed to pay a fine of $25,000, plus a $5,000 victim fine surcharge.

A subcontractor who employed Sinclair is also facing charges relating to the fatal incident. They include failure to provide adequate training and failure to notify Manitoba Hydro before work began. No plea has been entered.
